A New Everyday Bag
Friday, 4 March 2011 / 13:55

My portfolio assessment was yesterday, though I won't know the verdict for a couple of weeks. I'm glad it's out of the way now because I've completely run out of energy, haha.

Anyway, I thought I'd review the items from my last post. Shopping online with New Look was considerably more fun than actually going to a New Look store: no music, no clinical fluorescent lighting, a better selection, and prompt delivery.

Buckle Strap Satchel, £16.99 (£13.59 with discount)

I ordered this thinking "well, I need a bag and I suppose this is my best option", but now that I've taken it out a few times I love it. The size is just about perfect for what I usually carry - my diary, purse and camera all fit in the main compartment - and there's room to spare. The colour is also nicer than it appeared on the website or instore.

Bow Cross Body Bag, £7.99 (£6.39 with discount)

Last time I went to a smart event I had to borrow an evening bag from my mum, so whilst this one will only get occasional use, it does fill a gap in my wardrobe. I was considering getting this ASOS clutch, which is actually cheaper (£6) and probably a more versatile colour, but was put off by the apparent lack of a strap. I'm happy with the size of this bag - small, but roomy enough for the essentials.

Lastly, these Topshop vests in navy and sugar pink, 2 for £10 (£6 individually). Nothing exciting, but in my attempts to put together a better wardrobe I've been searching for good basics. After years of shunning anything remotely tight, I've realised that clingy, form-fitting tops do have their place; it was probably Sal's post on layering that made me think "hmm, so layering works better when not all your clothes are baggy?".

Anyway, I'm happy with these vests; they do fit small and stretchy, but they're still comfortable, and the shape is good. I'm tempted to get a couple more colours when my budget has room for it, probably including a second navy.

It seems there is actually a usable full-length mirror in my house, meaning I no longer have an excuse not to post OOTDs (!), so I hereby challenge myself to post at least one by the end of the month.

Haha -- I know what you mean -- you would never have caught me in a tank top a few years ago, and now I own tons of them, because I finally understood they are great to wear UNDER other things. They provide so many more outfit options!

I never thought I would do outfit photos, but now I do sometimes... some so bad I don't post... but they are a surprisingly good learning tool.
